Our history

In 1993, 26 employees decided to take over the textile business where they worked, which then filed for bankruptcy. They created a Cooperative and Participatory Society (SCOP). The founders and employees invested their severance pay, then the employees and founders democratically appointed their directors. The objective was to promote knitting know-how to the luxury sector. Quickly, customers entrusted Maille Création SCOP with the development of samples, prototypes, and the production of high-end knitwear.

In 2000, the company needed a larger and more functional premises. They constructed a new building of 2,000 m², remaining faithful to its original location, in Port-Brillet in the Mayenne region of France (53). The machine park is modernized, and production is streamlined around a knitting workshop and a confection workshop.

What is a Scop?

Cooperative and participatory society

In order to respond on time to growing orders, Maille Création wove in a network of subcontractors, mainly located in the Trevisa region of Italy, at the root of knitwear in Europe. The use of subcontractors also made it possible to occasionally call on specific expertise, according to the developments required by our customers. In 2011, a local subsidiary was created, Srl MC Italy, to facilitate the monitoring of production entrusted to Italy. Today two quality control technicians crisscross the region daily to verify compliance with quality requirements and deadlines, in a network made up of 15 to 20 regular subcontractors.

The 2010’s saw the company structure itself, with the reinforcement of subcontractors, the acquisition of a new garment workshop in Port-Brillet and investment in new IT tools.

A Collection/Development division was set up with a team and a machine park dedicated 100% to the creation of samples and prototypes according to the wishes of customers. More than 15 employees meet the specific requirements of development every day to the rhythm of the seasons of our customers (up to 6 collections per year). Our programmers have the latest Shima and Stoll software and a fleet of more than 20 knitting machines.

Today, nearly 75 employee-associates work every day to bring to life an artisanal know-how and an irreproachable quality for the luxury and ready-to-wear fashion market. For nearly 30 years, Maille Création SCOP has been putting its expertise and mastery of knitwear at the service of the creators/designers of the biggest names in luxury, as well as new designers.
